Popular Welsh rugby pitchside reporter publishes his BBC earnings and reveals not everyone is on the gravy train

BBC Wales Scrum V rugby reporter Phil Steele has been urged to employ Jason Mohammad's agent... after revealing not everyone is coining it in at the Corporation.

Steele chose to go public with his own broadcast earnings over the last 12 months and kind of took the mickey out of himself over it.

Steele's revelations, which were made on Twitter, come a day after the money spent on the Beeb's presenters and pundits provided plenty of headlines.

Cardiff City fan Mohammad in particular copped fearful flak after seeing his annual salary rocket to £355,000, putting him among the higher TV earners.

Amid the backdrop of the Beeb handing its stars an £11m pay increase in the last year, popular Welsh rugby presenter Steele was keen to stress not everyone was so fortunate.

To that end the former schoolteacher, turned freelance broadcaster and after-dinner speaker, published a letter on social media from the BBC contributions payments department in Surrey.

It showed the former Wales B and Newport player earned £17,336.60p for his work with the BBC last year.

And the letter went on to say it was his legal obligation to notify HMRC of his earnings to discover how much tax he would have to pay.

"I guess it puts me firmly at the top end of the £0-£17,337 BBC pay band. #NotAllOnTheGravyTrain," he tweeted out.

It invariably led to Steele's social media followers to suggest, presumably a little tongue-in-cheek, he has a word with BBC colleague Mohammad's agent as to how he could bolster his pay packet.

Steele is a regular pitchside reporter on Scrum V, often seen interviewing coaches. He also does radio work on the Welsh Premiership.
