Popular vegan market hits Lark Lane as interest 'higher than ever'

A vegan fair was held on Lark Lane this weekend, with 30 stalls selling a whole host of different products.

The Live A Better Life (LABL) Vegan Fair took over the Old Police Station on the popular south Liverpool street on Saturday, November 12. Around 30 vendors took part in the event, selling everything from vegan food to cruelty-free health and beauty products, along with live entertainment throughout the day.

Live A Better Life first started back in 2013 and was based in St George’s Hall before the pandemic.

Event manager Emma Cox said: "Interest in veganism is higher than ever in 2022. There are already a growing number of people in Liverpool who are vegan, vegetarian or on their way to a plant-based diet.

"Our Lark Lane event is ideal for people to find more delicious food and inspiration. For the increasing numbers of people who want to find out more about improving their health, saving animals and protecting the environment, this is an amazing event which will entertain and inspire.”

Sarah from the Sunshine Vegan Deli, who is based in Sheffield but came to Liverpool for the fair, said events like this were great for business and veganism. Sarah said: “It’s good because people actually come to chat about the products, they can take them home, and it’s a good opportunity to talk them through what we’ve got online so they can order once they’ve tried it.

"It’s like a taste before you actually buy them online. We sell a selection of savoury baked goods from award-winning 'scotch eggs', all vegan, we’ve got cold eating pies, quiches, sausage rolls, we even do Christmas roasts and deli 'meats.'

“I think these do help because people are bringing their friends along to try stuff, and if they try a little bit and think ‘do you know what? That was really tasty. I’m gonna buy that’”

Amy, 20, from South Africa, who works with LABL explained that she thought the big turnout was down to what she sees as Liverpool’s vegan community’s lack of choice. Amy said: “I think that there’s a small amount of people who are vegan in Liverpool, and there’s not much going on in Liverpool to do with veganism, so a lot of us are inclined to support the small things that are going on.”

The Live A Better Life Vegan Christmas Fair will be held on December 3 at the Old Police Station on Lark Lane. Entry is £1, and those under 10 go for free.
