ONE of Bristol's top vegan-friendly takeaways has dropped from a five-star rating six years ago to one-star after its latest inspection.
An inspection carried out on March 7, 2022, deemed that major improvement was needed at Marling Fish Bar on Marling Road in St George. The venue achieved a five-star rating in March 2016, but six years later it has dropped its rating dramatically from its previous 'very good' rating.
The takeaway was held back by the management of food safety, which inspectors say needs major improvement. This covers anything from the system or checks in place to ensure that food sold or served is safe to eat, evidence that staff know about food safety, and that the food safety officer has confidence that standards will be maintained in future

The cleanliness and condition of the facilities and building and hygienic food handling were both found to be in a generally satisfactory condition, but the management of food safety brought down the rating.
Marling Fish Bar sells fish and chips but is also very popular with vegans, offering a variety of meals to take away. Nearly all dishes on the menu can be made vegan or vegetarian.
On top of this, it sells fresh Chinese, Thai and Malaysian food for collection or delivery. Marling Fish Bar was contacted for a comment but declined.
