Popular vegan burger joint set to open first Welsh branch in Cardiff

A vegan fast food restaurant that sells burgers, dirty fries and 'shakes' could be opening its first Welsh branch in Cardiff. Planning applications for new signage and internal and external alterations have been submitted to Cardiff Council on behalf of Oowee Vegan for a city centre building.

Oowee Vegan has various locations across the UK, including two in Bristol, two in London, and a delivery kitchen in Manchester. The plant-based fast food restaurant launched five years ago with its first store opening on Baldwin Street in Bristol. Earlier this year, it also announced a restaurant to open in Brighton.

In 2019, the vegan diner scooped the 'Best Vegan Offering' and 'Best Restaurant' awards by Deliveroo. The menu offers a range of different fast-food options, including Beyond Meat burgers, fried Chick'n burgers and popcorn Chick'n, dirty fries, and shakes.

The restaurant's website says that their Chick'n is handmade using a "secret recipe" and that their 'hero sauces' are freshly made on a daily basis by their team of chefs, with burger buns also being made to order daily by a local baker.

The planning applications include proposals to transform the vacant building on St John Street, formerly a betting shop, through the creation of customer seating, 'ombre' spray-painted walls and a kitchen area.
