Popular US fast-food chain Wendys is coming to Ireland in 2022

US fast-food chain Wendy’s is coming to Ireland in 2022 as part of the franchise’s expansion across Ireland and the UK.

Wendy’s opened its doors in the United Kingdom this summer, with restaurants opening in Reading, followed by Stratford, Oxford and Croydon.

The fast-food chain is expected to open up to 50 restaurants in Ireland and the UK in locations where it has not yet established a presence.

The franchise previously had 10 locations in the UK, but exited from the U.K. market in 2001, blaming high operating costs for its departure, and a desire to focus on the US domestic market.

Wendy’s was founded in 1969 by Dave Thomas in Columbus, Ohio.

Dave built his business on the premise, “Quality is our Recipe”, which remains the guiding principle throughout Wendy’s system.

Best known for its made-to-order square hamburgers, sea salt fries, and the Frosty, a form of soft-serve ice cream, Wendy's menu consists primarily of hamburgers, chicken sandwiches, French fries, and beverages,

Wendy's system is comprised of approximately 6,900 restaurants worldwide with a united vision of becoming the world's most thriving and beloved restaurant brand.

As part of their take the Square Burger nationwide in 2022 expansion, the company has announced plans to build on its successful return by seeking new franchise partners across Britain and Ireland opening up to 50 restaurants.

The Company is actively engaging in discussions with franchise partners to rapidly grow and scale its brand presence in Scotland, Wales, Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland.

Paul Hilder, Wendy’s Senior Vice President and Managing Director for the UK and Canada said: “We have built a solid foundation and are confident in our expansion plans across the country over the next 18-24 months.

“We’re in the final stages of discussions with two traditional franchise partners who will help the brand cross the Midlands and the North of England, and we have a very strong pipeline of franchise candidates beyond that.”
