Popular traditional Irish pub with 'best pints in Dublin' to finally reopen

Great news for Dublin pint lovers as Confession Box will finally reopen it’s doors today after a year and a half of closure.

The pub on Marlborough Street has been closed since March 2020 and it’ll be back in business for those looking for an after work pint in the city centre.

In "The Pro” as it is still known by many Dubs, you are guaranteed a good pint and no penance.

Right on the Luas line, the pub has an intimate, old world atmosphere for the beloved locals and tourists.

The name of the pub dates back all the way to the Irish War of Independence (1919-1921).

It was rumoured that Michael Collins would drop into the pub and receive communion and confession from priests who came from the nearby Cathedral. Thus the pub earned the nickname of “The Confession Box”.

Today the pub is probably best known for its pints of Guinness and the live trad music evening. It has even been voted the best pint in Dublin.

So next time you’re on Marlborough Street drop in for a pint. They might not serve communion wafers anymore but you might get yourself some wine.
