Popular tourist trail trashed by men on mountain bikes

A popular tourist trail in a Merseyside town has been badly vandalised by two men on mountain bikes.

Last night at 7.15pm two men were seen approaching the viewing platform on the Queens Jubilee Trail in Southport. Access to the site is from the Esplanade at one of two entrances, both of which lead to circular pathways around the site.

They are linked with paths through Victoria Park to Rotten Row. The viewing platform looking out over Southport beach provides views across the Ribble Estuary to the north and the Welsh Hills to the south.

Two men in their 20s both on mountain bikes where then seen kicking the newly restored wooden rails before throwing them off the platform, according to local news website Qlocal. The information panel was also destroyed.

Police have been approached for a comment but have no record of the issue.
