Popular Stokes Croft café Emmeline finally reopens a year after BMW smashed into it

A popular café on Cheltenham Road has finally reopened, almost a year after it was destroyed when a car drove into it.

Emmeline, which doubles up as a florist, opened in May 2016 and was an instant hit, with visitors praising its delicious food offering and beautiful interior, with plants adorning the walls and front counter.

But on June 6 last year, disaster struck when a black BMW crashed into its shopfront, causing considerable damage.

The community rallied around to support the shop but the damage was severe enough to force it into closure for almost a year.

Café owner Shona Graham, previously of Yurt Lush, wrote an emotional message on Emmeline's Facebook page to let people know about the relaunch.

The message reads: "We quietly opened the doors yesterday and it was very emotional. Sorry not to tell you all beforehand, but it’s been an anxious time & the most important thing to me was to get the doors open & serve some lovely customers!

Five-month programme of events launched in response to effects of gentrification in Bristol

"Which we did and it felt completely natural almost immediately. THANK YOU times 1 million for you continued support, kind words & hugs over the past year.

"Special thanks to my partner in crime Katja for working so hard to get it open. We’re so happy to be serving your lunch again."
