Popular Stillorgan restaurant the Beaufield Mews to shut its doors after 70 years

A popular southside restaurant will be shutting its doors after over 70 years.

The Beaufield Mews in Stillorgan will close at the end of the month.

The restaurant is known to be one of the oldest standalone restaurants in the country and has been frequented by celebrities including Bjorn Borg, Joe Dolan, and Bono.

Owner Julie Cox told the Irish Times: “We wanted to finish on a high.

“We had a brilliant summer and were really busy and I think this is the best way to go. I want to do other things.”

The restaurant opened in the 1930s after Eddie Kirwan and his wife, Gogo (or Doreen), set up a pop-up shop to sell furniture.

She served customers tea and biscuits before the shop turned into a restaurant.

Julie, the granddaughter of the pair, has been running the restaurant for around two decades.

She said that the family still had not “really thought too much about what we’re going to do with it yet.

“We will close the doors on September 29 and then give it some thought.”
