Popular Spitroast restaurant to open third restaurant in former pub in Ormskirk

A historic Ormskirk town centre pub is set to come back to use as a chicken restaurant.

Businessman Adam Lunt is behind the plans as he looks to bring his popular Spitroast restaurant to a new location in the former Buck I’Th’ Vine pub on Burscough Street.

The Ormskirk site will become the third Spitroast restaurant in the growing business, with existing sites already in operation in Liverpool and Crosby.

The pub, which dates back to the late 17th century, has sat empty since 2014 but work is now underway to bring it back to a new use as Ormskirk Spitroast.

It was bought by developers The Mitty Group in October 2017 which promised to refurbish the site in order for the ground floor to be used as a bar and restaurant and the first floor for student accommodation.

The new restaurant will have space for 40 diners, with space for a further 20 seats in the courtyard outside.

Spitroast specialises in a variety of freshly made chicken and vegetarian dishes, including roast dinners each Sunday. The owners say they use only fresh ingredients, including free range poultry, with nothing pre-prepared or frozen.

Its website states: "We believe in providing great quality, affordable food that can be enjoyed by all ages, either in one of our restaurants, or to take away to your home.

"We source our produce as locally as possible, as seasonally as we can. This gives us the pleasure of providing a great local product to our local community."

A licensing application, seeking permission to sell alcohol, has been submitted to the council and states that the new venue wants to open midday-11pm each day, with the licence requested to begin from June 24.
