Popular South William Street pub will not be opening indoor area due to staffing issue

A popular South William Street pub has announced that it will not be able to reopen tomorrow when indoor dining resumes.

Grogan’s Castle Lounge told its customers that the meeting spot for artists and writers alike would not be able to open its doors due to a staffing issue.

The infamous pub is renowned for its toasties and has a rich history in Dublin’s city centre.

Dublin pubs and restaurants will finally be able to open their doors tomorrow.

Some of these establishments have been closed for 497 days during the pandemic.

A set of new rules have been introduced to ensure the safety of staff and customers.

Publicans will have to track the details of a customer’s vaccine or immunity status on a sheet of paper, with a second sheet of paper being kept for 28 days with a person’s name and number written down for contact tracing.

Customers will have their Covid cert digitally scanned before being allowed inside a premises.

A spokesman for Grogan’s tweeted about the pub’s decision.

He said: “Unfortunately due to staffing we won’t be able to reopen for indoor service from tomorrow but hope to do so in the coming weeks.

“We will remain open for outdoor service going forward.

“The very best of luck to all the businesses reopening tomorrow, go and smash it.”
