Popular south Dublin pub The Hill announces sudden closure

Ranelagh residents were shocked after a popular pub in the area announced its sudden closure last night.

Much loved watering hole, The Hill, announced the sudden closure on social media last night to the dismay of locals.

In a statement, pub management said they were forced to take the decision due to "circumstances beyond our control".

They said: "Dear All, Due to circumstances beyond our control the Hill Pub has closed with immediate effect.

"We would like to thank all of our wonderful customers over the last few years, you have all been amazing."

Locals were quick to pay tribute to the staff of the much loved boozer.

Paul Cleary said: "Will miss the place terribly. So many great nights there...Hope all the staff are ok."

Liam Mycroft added: "Wishing you all the best for the future, and to all the staff who were a credit to you and themselves. Our little running group will miss the place."

Nearby pub Humphrey's also added their condolances.

They said: "Sorry to hear that guys. It’s not as easy as many assume. Best wishes for the future."

The news comes just days after two other iconic Dublin pubs shut its doors for the last time.

The Lord Mayors pub in Swords was the second in the area to go over the weekend after The Swiss Cottage in Santry also closed-up shop.

The iconic thatched roof pub was known by locals from across North Dublin and is the oldest structure in the village having opened as a watering hole in 1668.
