Popular south Bristol bar launches Crowdfunder to enable it to reopen

A popular bar in south Bristol has launched a Crowdfunder to allow it to reopen safely.

The Old Bookshop in North Street, Bedminster is hoping to raise £1,500 so it can create a "comfortable and eye pleasing" outdoor seating area, which would enable it to have a larger capacity.

With more than 30 supporters the bar has already raised more than £1,000, with its target of £1,500 now in sight.

"Covid-19 has had a severe impact on our business," said a bar spokesperson on the Crowdfunder page.

"We took the decision not to reopen in July due to uncertainties in how we could operate a small indoor venue with social distancing guidelines in place.

"Making the Bookshop a seating only venue would drastically reduce our capacity.

"Thankfully, Bristol City Council has given us, and many other venues, the opportunity to have outside seating areas where there was once none, meaning that we have the chance to keep our capacity levels up while maintaining social distancing guidelines.

"The money raised from this fund will go towards a comfortable and eye pleasing seating area outside the front of The Old Bookshop."

In 2017 The Old Bookshop was named as Bristol's best bar in the Bristol Life Awards.
