Popular smoked salmon sold in Irish shops and restaurants urgently recalled over listeria fears

A smoked salmon product made in Ireland is being urgently recalled over food safety fears.

Burren Smokehouse is recalling a batch of its Smoked Irish Organic Salmon after a "very low level" of listeria monocytogenes was detected.

Symptoms of this infection can include vomiting, nausea, persistent fever, muscle aches, severe headache and neck stiffness.

In rare cases, the infection can be more severe, causing serious complications.

Some people are more vulnerable to listeria monocytogenes infections, including pregnant women, babies, and people with weakened immune systems, including the elderly.

The time between initial infection and first symptoms appearing) is on average three weeks but can range between three and 70 days.

The alert was issued by the Food Safety Authority of Ireland on Thursday.

According to the most recent suppliers list provided by the company, the salmon is sold in dozens of stores and restaurants across Ireland.

These include certain SuperValu, Centra, Spar and Daybreak stores, as well as numerous delis and cafes.

The FSAI is asking retailers to recall the implicated batch from their customers.

Caterers should not use the implicated batch, while consumers are advised not to eat the affected products.

The organic salmon being recalled comes in pack sizes of 90g, 180g, 500g and 1 kg and has the approval number IE MO 0022 EC and the batch code 288/02.
