Popular Scottish travel blogger dies at home after false West Bank claim

A POPULAR Scottish travel vlogger has died at home in the Scottish Borders after false claims suggested she had been killed in the West Bank.

Emma Witters, 57, ran the Wandering Emma account on social media, where she posted videos from locations such as Afghanistan, Ukraine, and Palestine.

She gained more than 140,000 subscribers on YouTube and nearly 50k followers on Instagram.

Originally from the Scottish Borders, the mother-of-two moved to the US around two decades ago.

After reports circulated that she had been killed while visiting the West Bank, police have since confirmed to The National that she died in Hawick on Friday.

It is understood that there are not believed to be any suspicious circumstances around the death.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "At 10am on Friday, 11 July, 2025, officers were called to attend a property on Renwick Terrace, Hawick.

"A 57-year-old woman was pronounced dead at the scene. Her next of kin are aware.

"Enquiries are ongoing, however there are not believed to be any suspicious circumstances.

"A report will be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal."

The statement comes after claims which circulated online and in the media suggested that Emma had been killed while on a visit to the West Bank.

She had visited Israel and the occupied West Bank for several months earlier this year, and has been uploading videos from her time there in the months following her return.

False reports claimed she had been killed after sharing a series of posts criticising Israel.
