A SCOTTISH pizza oven firm has confirmed that 50 jobs will be lost with senior positions being let go.
The outdoor pizza oven manufacturing firm, Ooni, said it decided to make staff members redundant so that the business can “thrive” in the future, The National can reveal.
Workers were told last month that 50 roles globally were being removed as part of a “restructure”.
The National understands that the company's restructure includes several high up positions in Scotland including the company’s chief operating officer, who left the firm in the summer.
Headquartered in Edinburgh, with a second site in Broxburn, Ooni employed around 300 workers worldwide, including countries like the US and Germany, as of April 2024.
Last year, The National revealed that Ooni “removed” a total of 75 roles globally, 45 of which were in the UK, effectively cutting a quarter of their workforce.
A spokesperson for Ooni told The National that the company is committed to supporting their team during “this period of change”.
They said: “We’re proud to have built an international business, enabled by the passion of both our customers and employees.
“Like many other global brands, the business has been impacted by a number of external factors over the last 18 months.
“Ultimately, for Ooni to thrive it’s critical that we align the structure of our team with our business strategy for the future.
“While we have worked hard to avoid this situation, on 8 September we informed the team that we will be removing 50 roles globally. We appreciate this is a difficult time for our people and we’re committed to supporting our team during this period of change.”
Ooni was founded in 2012 and is a specialist in portable wood pellet-burning stoves for the outdoors.
All the ovens are designed in Scotland but are made in China.
