Popular Scottish city cafe with 'world's best hash browns' to close after 8 years

A POPULAR brunch spot in Glasgow with the “world’s best hash browns” has announced it will close its doors for the final time after eight and a half years.

The southside eatery Potbelly, which was best known for dishes like its hot cakes, burritos and fish tacos, has announced it will close its doors for good this weekend.

Located on Victoria Road and formerly Nithsdale Road, the owners behind the much-loved cafe thanked their “loyal and gorgeous” customers in a statement posted to Instagram.

The statement read: “After eight and a half years between our original spot on Nithsdale road and @sacredtumtacos here at 522 Victoria Road, the time has finally come for us to close our doors for good.

“We can't thank everyone who has been a part of the businesses through the years enough (mushier post to follow) – or our loyal and gorgeous customers but it's time for us to move in a new direction.

“This weekend will be our last and it'll be lovely to see some old faces before we go.”

People were quick to flood the comments saying they will miss Potbelly. One person said: “Gutted your has browns and hot cakes were the best around.”

A second added: “Oh no, we’ll miss you so much. Your hash browns were top tier.”

A third person commented: “So sorry to hear that. Best hash browns in the world.”

But it is not just the hash browns patrons will miss, as one person said: “Please share sacred tums recipes, especially to those who had pre-orders in but didn’t get them!

“The fish tacos and prawn and chorizo burrito were stuff of dreams … very sad to see you go.”

Meanwhile, another said: “Can you please make a last order of tiramisu?”

The business added that with them closing, their lease at 522 Victora Road is available for assignation, and that anyone interested in taking over the “very popular spot” should get in touch via their business email address.
