A popular Ayrshire fish and chip shop could be turned into a flat.
The Crocodile Chippy in Millport on the Isle of Cumbrae – a stone's throw from the island's famous 'Crocodile Rock' beach landmark – closed its doors in March after the owners decided to concentrate on other business interests.
The seafront restaurant and takeaway – rated Millport's top chippy on Tripadvisor – was put up for sale a month later and was still available at a guide price of £80,000 as recently as last month.
This week, a change of use planning application was lodged with North Ayrshire Council which could signal the end for hopes that the eaterie might be revived.
Over the years, it has became a favourite with local residents, daytrippers and holidaymakers alike.
Applicant Stephen White, of The Kidbrooke Group, wants to turn the property into a self-contained studio flat.
Drawings lodged with the local authority show how the property could be transformed into an open plan living room and kitchen space with separate bathroom.
Planners will rule on the application in due course.
The Crocodile Rock landmark has been around for millions of years but wasn't famous until around 100 years ago when a local decided to turn it into a piece of art.
