Popular Celtic bar livens up boarded windows with heartfelt tribute to NHS

A popular Celtic bar has turned it's boarded windows into a message of hope and solidarity with the NHS.

Like many pub and restaurant venues, Grace’s Irish Sports Bar in Glasgow’s Merchant City was forced to board up the windows as a safety precaution during coronavirus lockdown.

However, owners decided to liven up the site with a special message in support for the NHS.

The colourful display urges residents to stay at home and help the health workers on the frontline of the Covid-19 fight.

On Facebook, the bar wrote: “Grace’s in Glasgow’s Merchant City, were sad to see the venue boarded up yesterday.

“And so, we decided to remind everyone we are in this together by replacing the boards with something a bit more uplifting.”

The pub would ordinarily be filled with revellers on a Friday and Saturday night. However, lockdown measures have put a stop to this.

Manager Paul Kelly told the Record: “Glasgow always comes together in times of crisis.

“It’s what we do and what defines us.

“The customers and staff of Grace’s are a big part of the city.

“Our gesture however, is nothing compared to the daily sacrifices of the men and women on the frontline who are fighting this terrible pandemic.

“We just wanted to show our gratitude in the only way we could. Keep safe everyone and stay indoors until we are told otherwise.”
