Two of Rutherglen’s much loved charity shops have again opened their doors to customers.
The Prince & Princess of Wales shop in Gallowflat Street began trading again on Monday.
It follows the recent reopening of the PDSA shop on Main Street, where an appeal has gone out for volunteers to help the UK’s leading veterinary charity care for sick and injured animals
Social distancing and enhanced cleaning procedures are in place in both shops with hand sanitiser available, while face masks must be worn by customers while inside. Rhona Baillie, chief executive of The Prince & Princess of Wales Hospice, said: “We know from feedback that people have really missed visiting their local hospice shop.
“We will have some amazing new stock on offer following our hugely successful drive-thru for donations.”
Shops are unable to accept physical donations but they can be accepted at The Prince & Princess of Hospice, 20 Dumbreck Road, Bellahouston Park or the Hillington Hub, 43 Carlyle Avenue G52 4XX.
Meanwhile, PDSA, says it has been losing £3million a month since the pandemic struck. Lloyd Hughes, PDSA’s head of retail, said: “Our shop in Rutherglen is one of the first in the UK to reopen and it’s been lovely to see so many familiar faces again. We’ve been overwhelmed by the community’s support.
“Even in a pandemic, pets get sick or injured. But there’s been an enormous impact on our ability to raise funds, so we’re appealing to anyone who feels they have something to offer to help the lives of poorly pets to get in touch.”
