Popular rest-stop chain sues rival over similar logos

  • Popular rest-stop chain Buc-ee’s is suing Ohio-based gas station Mickey’s for copyright infringement, alleging its new logo and branding cause customer confusion.
  • Buc-ee’s claims Mickey’s new logo, featuring a smiling cartoon moose, closely resembles its own iconic beaver mascot, both depicting a cartoon animal with wide eyes and a smile against a round background.
  • The lawsuit also highlights Mickey’s recent name change from “Mickey Mart” to “Mickey’s” and its predominant use of the color red in signage and uniforms as contributing to the alleged brand similarity.
  • Buc-ee’s argues that Mickey’s unauthorized use of similar logos and branding allows it to unfairly trade on Buc-ee’s established goodwill and reputation.
  • Buc-ee’s is seeking a permanent court order to block Mickey’s from using the disputed logos and has demanded a jury trial in the case.
