Popular Rangers bar faces liquidation as 'wind up' notice issued to courts

WEEKS after closing for refurbishment a Rangers pub in Dennistoun, Glasgow faces closure.

The Bristol Bar on Duke Street has been a popular haunt for Rangers fans for years, but closed its doors last month.

The pub – which is only a 15-minute walk from Celtic’s stadium – has four days before the courts appoint a liquidator to wrap up all holdings of the premise, after the owners were notified of a petition presented to a sheriff.

There’s been a pub standing on the site as far back as 1874, and has previously been named the White Horse, Great Eastern Bar, The Quarter Gill, and now The Bristol Bar – the Rangers pub was acquired in 1996 by the Wylie family.

A post on the pub's social media accounts said: "We are going to close for a short period of time to carry out some important refurbishment works.

"These works will involve removal of large sections of the ceiling to install an air conditioning system and the overdue repairs to the floor tiles.

"We expect to be closed for 12 days and already are working hard on securing some amazing entertainment for you guys when we return.

"We are so sorry about the short notice but with the season coming to a close we feel now is the best time to get this work out of the way.

"Works will commence on Tuesday, May 30 and last orders will be Monday, May 29 at 10pm.

"We will be back soon and thanks for your support, we can't thank you all enough."

An advertisement of the petition appeared in the Metro newspaper, from Frances Ennis, Petitioner's Agent for Bellwether Green Solicitors, and stated: "Notice is hereby given that on 12th June 2023 a Petition was presented to the Sheriff at Glasgow by Bristol Bar (Glasgow) Ltd having their registered office at 600 Duke Street, Glasgow, G31 1JX ('the Company') craving the Court inter alia that the Company be wound up by the Court and that an interim liquidator be appointed in which Petition the Sheriff at Glasgow by interlocutor dated 12th June 2023 appointed all persons having an interest to lodge.

"Answers in the hands of the Sheriff Clerk at Glasgow within eight days after intimation, service or advertisement."
