Popular playground in Salford deemed unsafe two years ago secures funding for improvements

A popular children’s woodland playground which failed a safety check two years ago will be up and running again.

Back in 2018, the Worsley woods adventure playground was set to be dismantled after failing its annual health and safety check.

The playground - more than a decade old - and the wooden equipment had deteriorated and had reached the end of its lifespan.

Salford council has now said that thanks to a £40,000 government grant, and various fundraising efforts by the Worsley Woods Action group, the playground will be reopened next year.

Councillor David Lancaster, lead member for environment and community safety, said: “The original adventure playground was installed in 2008 using Section 106 money from developers, but the wooden equipment was deteriorated and reached the end of its lifespan.

“It is a popular area and it was always our plan to replace it when funding became available, working with Worsley Woods Action Group which set up a crowdfunding page to appeal for local support.

“Our plan is to replace the trim trail, install a new swing which children with disabilities can enjoy and make access more wheelchair and pushchair friendly.

“Both children and adults will be able to able to use and enjoy the new trim trail which we expect to be in place later this year.”
