'Popular' Nottinghamshire town named one of UK's 50 most desirable areas

An affluent Nottinghamshire town has been named one of the UK's 50 most desirable towns. West Bridgford is one of the best places to live in the country, according to a report published in The Telegraph.

Estate agents Savills was commissioned to compile a list of the 50 places that scored the highest across several factors. Using the latest census data, various aspects have been considered including the proportion of residents holding managerial jobs, their level of qualifications and the state of their health and the costs of buying a house.

And while the majority of them are in the South East, the leafy Nottinghamshire suburb is the only area in the East Midlands to make it into the top 50 list. A mere three miles away from the city centre, West Bridgford is home to many families, brilliant transport links and schools.

Its busy high street has something for everyone, ranging from bars and restaurants to bookstores and supermarkets, while the historic Trent Bridge cricket stadium, football grounds, and National Water Sports Centre make it ideal for sporty residents. Among the most popular restaurants is Eva's Grill, which is a magnet for celebrities.

Nottingham Forest captain Joe Worrall is a fan, so is manager Steve Cooper. Other big names on the local sporting scene like boxing champion Leigh Wood and Notts cricketer Alex Hales have been spotted eyeing up the menu at the Greek and Mediterranean restaurant and takeaway in West Bridgford.

Once heading to Trent Bridge - people are spoilt for choice. On one side is Brewhouse & Kitchen, and on the other side of the road is Waterside Bar + Kitchen, located in front of the home of Nottingham Forest.

As well as drinks and food, the one thing both West Bridgford bars have in common is a scenic backdrop of the River Trent. Waterside's fans say it's a beautiful place on a hot day and a real suntrap.

Living here, however, comes at a price. Lying just south of the River Trent it ranks among having the highest number of high-income households outside of London and the south east.

“With a host of bars, restaurants, coffee shops and delis, this is one of the most popular, family-friendly areas in Nottingham to live,” says the team at local agents Royston Lund, according to The Telegraph.

Lucian Cook, head of residential research for Savills, told The Telegraph: “It’s worth noting that these locations are not second-home hotspots. They are aspirational, affluent places that attract incoming wealth with good schools and a strong quality of housing stock where residents are economically active who are building up their property and personal wealth.”

When we asked readers to give their judgement on where in Nottingham and Nottinghamshire is the best place to live, West Bridgford came out as the clear winner.
