Popular Nottingham sandwich shop, which hasn't reopened since March, now empty

Fixtures and fittings have been cleared out of a sandwich shop frequented by Nottingham city centre office workers.

Philpotts, in Upper Parliament Street, was popular with nearby staff, who popped in for a bacon cob and coffee on their way to work.

The takeaway, which also had seating for eat-in customers, always had a queue of customers at lunchtimes for the made-to-order sandwiches, baguettes and salads.

The shop closed at the start of the first lockdown in March 2020 but has never reopened, even when allowed to do so from July to November.

Office staff now working from home has led to a significant lack of footfall in the city centre and the grab-and-go food market has dwindled since the start of the pandemic.

One, who hasn't worked at his office since March, said: "It was handy for toast in the mornings and the salads were really tasty. I'll miss it if it has closed for good when we eventually return to the office."

Philpotts, which also has outlets in Birmingham, Manchester and Leeds, no longer lists Nottingham on the company website.

Nottinghamshire Live has contacted Philpotts for a comment.
