Popular Nottingham Co-op reopens as Nisa with new look

Shoppers have expressed their delight over the new Nisa store which has opened on Gedling Road. The shop which had been a Co-op for many years had closed for refurbishments ahead of the launch on Monday, July 18.

The shop has been given a fresh new look but will still sell many of the much-loved brands and Coop products that customers are looking for. It has also been given a new slushie machine perfect for the hot weather.

Dharsan Premkumar, of independent convenience store operator The Highbury Vale Limited, bought the Gedling Road store. He also runs other stores in Nottingham..

"It was a long time for us to get ready to open as it takes a few months. We decided on this store about a year ago so it took that length of time to get the transition done. We had a quick turnaround once we got the keys on Tuesday, we were ready by Saturday afternoon," he said.

"There was quite a bit of extensive work done. We saw a good opportunity here and we are based in Nottingham with three other stores too. I only live five minutes down the road we thought this was a good store with a good customer base and location. We thought it would be a shame if it closed down."

Dharsan highlighted that they had a good team in place ready to open the shop as many of the staff members opted to stay on after the changeover. Nisa aims to be super adaptable and able to call in anything that staff or customers would like to see stocked.

"When we decided to purchase, we met all the staff who were lovely and we kept everyone who wanted to stay on including the store manager. Our plan is to retrain them on the NISA system which gives them a little bit more freedom. It will give the customers a bit more freedom if they want to request items too without going through an extensive process to get it in."

Vanessa Ferris is local to the area and Co-op in Gedling Road, on the border of Carlton and Gedling Village, was her local shop. She is delighted to see it change to Nisa: "It's very nice and it seems a lot lighter inside. It's lovely to see some of the Coop brands that you get used to there along with new things. I've lived here all my life and this shop has been here for years so it's nice to see a bit of a change actually."

Allison Long is also local to the store. She popped in to grab some groceries ahead of the hot weather forecast later that day. "It's much better than before as it's fresh and clean. My son likes what they sell especially the slushies and the milkshakes. We didn't want it to change at first, but we like it."
