A Nottingham clothes store has closed in what has been described as "another blow" to the retail landscape of the city.
Women's clothing brand Whistles has shut its doors and stock has been taken from the shop floor with a 'to let' sign now above the premises. The company's website confirms it is 'permanently closed'.
The property is located in the heart of Nottingham city centre, occupying a prominent position on Middle Pavement, next to Bridlesmith Gate.
It is now listed on the NG Chartered Surveyors website to let for £25,000 per year.
Passer-by Alex Howe, 22, of the city centre, said: "It's a shame to see it closed. I didn't shop there personally but it's important there are lots of shops around for people to choose from when we come back into the city properly.
"It is in a really good location so I don't imagine it'll be empty for long."
Whistles describes itself on its website as a "contemporary fashion brand, based in London."
It adds: "A shopping destination for the busy, dynamic woman, we create timeless pieces with an intelligent sense of design. Collections are considered, wearable and yet distinct, with true seven days a week appeal, crafted to fit effortlessly into modern life.
"With an increasing presence on the global fashion stage, we have become a destination for fashion editors and industry leaders alike, renowned for our of-the-moment collaborations with independent brands and our emphasis on quality and longevity."
Amari Jones, 28, of Wollaton, added: "I know Whistles is a well-known brand so it's a shame to see it go and it's another blow for shopping in Nottingham.
"Retail has been hit so hard by the pandemic. You do wonder what sort of city will be left."
Whistles says it also sells items within Nottingham's John Lewis store.
