Popular Newport restaurant announces plans to open second branch

A popular Newport restaurant has revealed exciting plans to open a second location in Gwent. Independent street food outlet Tin Can Kitchen in Rogerstone has announced it will expand its offering with a new outdoor seating area, as well as a second restaurant in nearby Cwmbran.

Owned and run by Barry Fallon and Jordan Phillips, Tin Can Kitchen opened in May 2020 during Wales' first lockdown. Originally operating as a takeaway restaurant housed in several several shipping containers on Chartist Way, the outlet's success prompted its owners to open pizza delivery service Al Forno in late November 2021.

Now the business, which celebrates its second birthday this week, has announced exciting plans for the future which include a second Tin Can Kitchen in Cwmbran - with an exact location to be confirmed - as well as an outdoor seating area for its kitchens in Rogerstone.

“Opening Al Forno was our first proper milestone,” said co-owner Jordan Phillips. “As soon as Al Forno took off, we knew we were onto something. Two years in and we’re ready to move to the next stage, which is a second Tin Can Kitchen in Cwmbran and an outdoor seating area for our flagship kitchens in Rogerstone. As you can imagine, we’re beyond excited and can’t wait to see where we take the brands."

"To open a thriving business in any climate is a challenge, but to do so during a global pandemic is something I’m particularly proud of," added co-owner Barry Fallon. "However, we don’t like to dwell on the past and, as always, we continue to look to the future and where we can take the business. We’ve got a great team behind us – from our chefs to the admin team – without whom the business wouldn’t be where it is today.”

To mark its second birthday both Tin Can Kitchen and Al Forno have collaborated on the Luchador menu, a Mexican-inspired limited-edition menu which will run until the end of May. A competition for free meals is also running via Tin Can Kitchen’s Facebook and Instagram, with winners selected on Tuesday, May 10.
