Popular Leeds Wetherspoons pub to be closed for four months in £1.5m revamp

A popular Wetherspoon pub in Leeds is shut for four months as it undergoes a £1.5m revamp.

The Bowling Green, in Bondgate, Otley, is expected to reopen on February 8, 2022, for vital works.

As part of the million-pound work, it includes a new staff room, changing rooms and an upgrade to the existing beer garden, and lightning throughout.

A spokesperson for Wetherspoon said that a single-storey extension will also be built at the back of the pub into the existing yard area to create more space for customers.

They added as part of the pub's “new look”, a new entrance and a fire escape directly onto New Market Street will be created, the existing bar and washup will be replaced and there will be a new bar and new staff facilities onto the first floor of the existing ancillary two-story brick adjoining unit.

While the business is shut, staff working at the pub will be employed to other Wetherspoon pubs in the region.

Wetherspoon spokesman Eddie Gershon said: “The Bowling Green is an extremely popular pub.

“Our aim is to provide our customers with the best possible pub and we believe the new development will do just that.

“We are certain that customers will welcome the new-look pub.”
