Popular Lanarkshire pub changes back to original name as new owners hope to restore former glory

A Lanarkshire pub is going back to its roots as it prepares for its re-launch this week.

The Libertine in Hamilton has been taken over by new owners, creating six local jobs.

The boozer will be renamed The Windsor Bar in a nod to its heritage when it reopens on Friday, October 29.

Under new management partners, CJ Leisure Group - made up of Jamie Duffy, Jon McDowall and Christopher Dunn - the trio have worked hard in recent weeks to revamp the pub.

They have kitted out its interior with new furniture, lighting and sound systems, ready to welcome back punters this weekend.

New manager Jamie Duffy told Lanarkshire Live : "Libertines has and will always be known as The Windsor Bar , and it seems fitting and the right time to bring back the name to Hamilton.

"Along with bringing back some old faces for live entertainment and staffing, you will soon see the old Windsor name and venue back in the town.

"The group have invested in new furniture, lighting and sound systems."

It's familiar territory for the Libertine's new owners who already run a number of Lanarkshire pubs including The West End Bar in Blantyre and The Kirkton Inn in Carluke.

They bring over 20 years of experience in the hospitality industry and can't wait to now get started in Hamilton.

And Jamie is no stranger to pubs in the area, after previously working in Doherty's Bar in the town.

He added: "Our relaunch night is planned for Friday, just in time for Hallowe'en weekend.

"We look forward to getting the venue reopened, getting customers back through the doors and getting to know all the customers in Hamilton.

"Everyone is welcome!"

The Windsor will be open seven days a week from 11am daily.

The pub has also applied to change the late night opening night from what is currently Friday to Saturday 1am licence.

New owners Jamie, Jon and Christopher have also insisted their new establishment will be an all-inclusive pub and being an LGBT+ safe place venue.

The landlords also bring their own in-house security team, Titus Security Solutions, who will man the doors every weekend.
