Popular Korean street food restaurant Tuk Tuck to open new site in Stokes Croft

A well-liked Korean street food restaurant in Bristol is opening a second site in the city.

Tuk Tuck on St Stephen's Street is known for its laid back feel and tasty, reasonably priced food, with popular dishes including the bibimbap - a Korean rice dish - and chicken katsu curry.

People can also bring their own booze to the restaurant, which also offers a number of vegan options, or there's a fridge stocking a selection of Asian and locally-brewed beers.

Owners Alex Slatter and Quan Cui, who met while working together at the former Tampopo restaurant in Cabot Circus, expanded their business in 2018 with the launch of sister site Dangun, which replaced the former Bagel Boy on St Nicholas Street.

And later this month they are expanding further by launching a second Tuk Tuck at the former home of Ceres on Stokes Croft, which closed in July 2019.

Opening on March 16, it will be slightly larger in size to Tuk Tuck's first home but will offer the same menu, as well as the option for diners to bring their own drinks in with them.

"The response to Tuk Tuck's first restaurant has been really positive over the past four years and now that Dangun is settled, we wanted to expand the family," said Alex, 31.

"We were looking for a new place for about a year and wanted to make sure we got it right.

"Stokes Croft is a really good fit for our casual offering we think and the area now has some decent restaurants as well as bars.

"Now that it's starting to look like a new restaurant and not just an empty shell, Quan and I are really looking forward to opening the doors."

Tuk Tuck will certainly be in good company, with Pieminister and Caribbean Croft to one side and The Spaghetti Incident, which won Best Restaurant at the inaugural Bristol Loves awards, on the other.
