Kilmarnock’s popular music festival K-Fest promises to be bigger and better than ever when it launches on Friday.
Loudoun Musical Society will offer a free concert of Broadway hits and musical numbers in New Laigh Kirk from 7pm on the opening night.
The town centre will then be transformed for a free family fun day on Saturday with ‘busk stops’ at the Celebrate Kilmarnock unit and music in the Burns Mall.
The K-Fest concert in The Strand will take place from 4pm to 10.15pm and aims to be the biggest outdoor event ever held in the town centre, with seven acts set to perform.
Organiser James Wilson told the Kilmarnock Standard: “As chair of Kilmarnock Pubwatch, we had discussed a festival for several years and in 2017 the first small scale K-Fest was launched by ourselves and Celebrate Kilmarnock.
“It was a success, creating a much-needed boost to the night-time economy and bringing back the all-important feelgood factor to the town.
“We proved that we could change the record and built on the momentum created to launch Kilmarnock’s first-ever live outdoor concert in the town centre in 2018, using a wealth of local artists.”
He added: “K-Fest, like Celebrate Kilmarnock, is a movement for change.
“It cannot happen without the community being involved.”
