Popular Kearsley route Slackey Brow closed for '1,010 years' according to official roadworks bulletin

Roadworks can often feel like they go on forever but some eagle-eyed drivers will have done a double take upon noticing how long a popular Kearsley route is said to be closed for.

In Bolton Council's most recent roadworks and closures bulletin, one of the disruptions listed is an off-peak road closure on Slackey Brow.

The road initially closed on Friday to allow National Grid to carry out 'pylon work' according to the bulletin.

It seemed to be routine electrical work but one detail that stood out was that the scheduled end date for the roadworks is listed as Monday March 16 3030, in 1,010 years time.

Discussing the road closure on the Stoneclough Community Group on Facebook, Paul Tyler joked: "Slackey Brow off peak it’s saying till 3030. I won’t be around will you?"

Also in Stoneclough, temporary traffic lights are in effect on Bridge Street and Hulme Road, while Bolton Council carry out bridge refurbishments and United Utilities deal with one of their pipe bridges being swept away by Storm Ciara.

Reacting to the disruption, Jill Bent commented: "Total nightmare, our village will be in total lockdown."

Bolton Council has since clarified that the date for the National Grid work was a typo and said it will be amended to Monday March 16 2020 on future bulletins.
