One of Ireland’s most popular press photographers, Pat Moore, has passed away.
The Kilkenny freelancer died in Waterford University Hospital on Saturday after being diagnosed with cancer earlier this year.
Pat had spent many years working for papers in his hometown before contributing to national news outlets across the country.
Irish Mirror Picture Editor Zoe Watson said: “Pat was a true gentleman and nothing was ever too much trouble for him.
“I’d been speaking to him a few weeks ago and I knew he was very ill but I didn’t expect this news.
“Throughout his treatment he had remained upbeat and in good humour anytime I called. Even when he must have been suffering terribly, he would be laughing and joking.
“I always knew that when I phoned Pat to ask him to do a job it wasn’t going to be a quick two minute conversation. He was always up for a chat and would keep me on the phone all morning.
“Reporters loved working with him. He loved the job and did everything with a smile.
“Pat had a great passion for photography and a good eye for a photo but it was probably his charm which allowed him to get pictures where others couldn’t.
“The newspaper industry has lost a real asset and many people have lost a good friend.”
As well as photography, Pat loved soccer and had been both a scout and talented coach in the past.
He was devoted to animal welfare and had taken in many stray and rescue cats over the years.
Pat will be laid to rest at Tulla Cemetery, Threecastles, Co Kilkenny following Requiem Mass at St Canice’s Church at noon on Tuesday.
