Popular Hyundai model sold in Ireland over five year period urgently recalled over safety fears

A popular Hyundai model sold in Ireland over a five year period has been recalled over safety fears.

The car company has issued an alert over its i30 vehicles manufactured between May 2007 and May 2012.

It's feared these vehicles may be affected by an electrical issue which could have a direct impact on their braking system.

A statement said: "Hyundai Cars Ireland Unlimited Company are carrying out a voluntary recall of i30 vehicles that were manufactured between May 2007 and May 2012.

"An issue has been identified, whereby some vehicles might experience an electrical short on the ABS/ESC module power, which can disable this system and consequently have a direct impact on the car’s braking system.

"This recall affects 2,777 vehicles in the Republic of Ireland."

The Competition and Consumer Protection Commission said Hyundai will directly contact all affected customers and advise them to make an appointment with their local dealer or authorised repairer where necessary works will be carried out.

Consumers who believe their car is affected can contact their local Hyundai dealer or Hyundai Cars Ireland UC’s customer care by telephone 01 460 9800.

Hyundai has been contacted for comment.
