Popular Halloween event Bristol Zombie Walk scrapped because of Covid

Zombies are supposed to live forever but even these immortal beings are nervous about Covid.

The annual Bristol Zombie Walk, which traditionally takes place on the last Saturday of October, has been cancelled due to concerns over Covid safety issues.

The Bristol Zombie Walk started 14 years ago but it was cancelled last year due to Covid and the organisers have reluctantly scrapped this year’s event too.

In the past, hundreds of people have joined the walk around the city centre and College Green, often heading off to clubs and pubs in scary zombie costumes and make-up.

The walk is usually headed by somebody dressed as Jonah of the Dead and there are zombie marshals with ‘brain’ signs pointing people the right way along the route.

Hundreds of zombies stagger at a shuffling pace during the walk, which takes around 90 minutes. The slow zombies often walk at the front to ensure everybody sticks to the appropriate shuffling pace.

Organisers say they have scrapped this year’s event again due to ‘the ongoing situation with COVID-19 because we don’t have the means to fall within Covid safety guidelines’.

When asked by Bristol Live why an outdoor event for zombies was cancelled, founders ‘Jonah & Badger’ declined to comment.
