Popular Glasgow bookshop Category Is Books damaged after flooding due to severe weather

An independent bookshop in Glasgow's south side has been damaged by leaks after the recent snow and rain in the city.

Luckily, owners caught the leaks before all their book stock was "soaked through".

Bosses at Category Is Books bookshop, on Allison Street in Govanhill, took to social media to let customers know that their lockdown home delivery service will be limited but still up and running as they get the repairs sorted.

They wrote: "Update! She’s leaking!

"Friends, we are sorry to let you know that the recent rain and snow have left the bookshop with two (bad-ish) leaks.

"Luckily we caught it before the entire young adult section was soaked through, and repairs are on the way.

"We’ll still be running a home delivery service over lockdown, it will just be a bit more limited as we need to pack up a lot of the books into storage to keep them safe while repairs are carried out.

"Hopefully everything will be fixed soon and we can look forward to reopening after lockdown, with everything feeling really fresh to welcome people back.

"Huge thanks to our upstairs neighbour who was an absolute babe about helping out with a temporary fix late last night. Also to various pals who have kept us calm today.

"Big love to you all!"

A number of people replied to the post showing support and saying that they would be happy to buy the damaged books.

One user wrote: "Sorry to hear this! Would be very happy to buy water damaged books full price if the words are still legible".
