Popular Glasgow bar closes over coronavirus case fears as staff face anxious wait

A busy Glasgow pub has temporarily closed over fears of a positive coronavirus case.

Phillies of Shawlands have shut their doors and expect to be closed over the weekend as they await contact from Track and Trace teams.

Management at the Pollokshaws Road bar stressed that the safety of their customers and staff was ‘paramount’.

They added that as soon as they had more information, they would share it with punters who may have visited the bar.

In a statement, they said: “Unfortunately we’re going to be closed this evening and for the weekend.

“If you’ve been in since we reopened, you will have seen that the safety of our customers and staff has been paramount.

“Unfortunately, some things are out of our control. We’re awaiting contact from Track + Trace and as soon as we know more, we’ll let you know. Stay safe.”

Two further Glasgow bars, the Record Factory and Bag O’Nails, have also closed after being visited by the same customer who later tested positive for the bug.
