Popular Gavin and Stacey star rules herself out of Christmas reunion episode

There has been a lot of excitement about the newly announced Christmas reunion episode of Gavin and Stacey.

Since James Corden revealed on Twitter that the wait for a reunion is over, fans have been composing lists of questions they want answering.

And there's been plenty of speculation over who will and won't be a part of the special episode.

Viewer favourite Margaret John, who played Dorris, will not be part of the reunion as she sadly died in 2011.

And another one of the show's popular characters has now ruled herself out of the cast.

Sheridan Smith who played Smithy's younger sister Ruth 'Rudi' Smith, will not be returning.

Sheridan was speaking in an interview with Zoe Ball on BBC Radio 2 when she made the shock revelation, PlymouthLive reports.

Asked whether she could reveal any details about the show, Smith replied: "I wish. No, I’m not going to be in it, I think."

The full line-up is not yet known, but James Corden and Ruth Jones are expected to be joined by Mathew Horne, Joanna Page, Rob Brydon, Larry Lamb, Melanie Walters and Alison Steadman for the new episode.

In a statement James Corden and Ruth Jones said: "Over the last ten years we've talked a lot about Gavin and Stacey - where they might be today and what their lives might look like.

"And so in secret we took the plunge and wrote this one hour special.

"We’ve loved revisiting Barry and Essex again and bringing the characters back together has been a joy.

"We’re so excited to get the chance to work with our fabulous cast and crew once more and to give fans of the show a festive treat this Christmas.

"Thank you BBC for helping to make this happen."
