Popular European destination introduces new strict beach rules

  • Greece has increased the number of its "untouched beaches" to 250, where commercial activities are now prohibited to protect their natural beauty and environment.
  • On these protected beaches, businesses are banned from placing furniture like sunloungers and umbrellas, and tourists cannot rent watersports equipment such as jet skis or kayaks.
  • Further restrictions include a ban on events with more than 10 people, large-scale amplifying sound equipment, and cars driving on the sand.
  • Mobile or trailer-mounted refreshment stands are still permitted to operate, selling drinks and snacks to beachgoers.
  • The "untouched" status is applied to beaches chosen for their unique landscapes and scientific or ecological value, spanning across Greece and its island groups, with Leipsoi having the most protected shorelines.
