Popular Edinburgh Thai restaurant in city centre put up for sale after owner falls ill

A popular Edinburgh restaurant has been put it up for sale after the owner fell ill.

The Thailander has advertised that they are searching for someone to take over the business as soon as possible due to the current owner's ill health.

A busy spot near the Meadows, the eatery first opened up in 2016 serving a range of traditional Thai street food, and is now searching for a new pair of hands to keep the site going.

Advertised with a leasehold of £49,995, the sellers are hoping for the new owner to have a 'hands-on' approach, and can keep up with their high levels of trade.

With a projected annual turnover of over £190,000, an advertisement by agents read: "The Thailander was established in this bustling and central area of Edinburgh in 2016 with our clients taking ownership in 2022. The business offers a stunning range of authentic Thai foods. It has become very well known in this area and has a strong base of regular customers in place as well as benefitting from a huge amount of passing trade due to this excellent trading position close to a number of attractions.

"Our client has ensured the business has an excellent reputation and superb reviews are noted on Google, Trip Advisor and Facebook. The Thailander has a comprehensive website in place.

"The Thailander occupies a prominent corner trading position on a busy high street. The area is densely populated commercially with neighbouring businesses including independent retailers as well as large multiples. There are also a number of amenities and attractions nearby including Edinburgh Castle, Edinburgh University and the halls of residence, a large local hospital, Kings Theatre and Cameo Cinema.

"The business is ideally suited to a hands-on owner-operator but sadly due to our client’s ill health, the business is offered for sale. This presents an excellent opportunity for a new owner-operator or team to take the business to the next level."
