Popular Edinburgh Sofi's bar to be turned into flats after council give the go-ahead

A well-known Edinburgh Southside pub will not be reopened as another hospitality venue after council planners gave the go-ahead for the property to be turned into flats.

Visser Property Investments Ltd have had their change of use application granted for former waterhole Sofi's Southside at 42-44 Buccleuch Street.

The venue will now be converted into three flats and changes will also be made to the front and rear elevations of the property.

Sofi's Southside was part of Edinburgh's Boda Bars family - a company which includes other popular bars such as Joseph Pearce's and Victoria Bar on Leith Walk.

Boda Bars also operated the original Sofi's Bar on Henderson Street, which also shut down during lockdown and was sold to a new owner - it will open next week as new cocktail bar Three Marys.

Sofi's Southside pub will now be changed into two studio flats and one two-bed flat - having previously operated as the Southside Social and Moo bar.

Four public objections were made to the plans according to the application on Edinburgh Council's planning portal.
