Popular Edinburgh restaurant voted the best in Scotland at the Curry Awards 2021

An Edinburgh restaurant has been voted best in Scotland at the ‘Curry Oscars.’

Dishoom Edinburgh based at St Andrew’s Square won the accolade at the British Curry Awards 2021 in London last night.

The swanky award ceremony in Battersea saw restaurants from across the UK battle it out for the awards.

In its 17th year the awards carry a lot of prestige in the catering industry and the 'Curry Oscars' are well sought after.

Dishoom was the only Scottish eatery to be commended when they won the Best Restaurant Scotland.

The Edinburgh eatery is open all day and is famous in the capital city for its Bacon Naan Rolls in the morning.

They style their food as ‘Bombay comfort food’ and offer a range of authentic curries that have made them a fixture in Edinburgh since they opened in 2016.

The restaurant shuts at 11pm every night but home deliveries are available.

Three other Edinburgh restaurants were nominated: Shezhan, Radhuni and Prana Indian Grill but failed to win an award.

The Prime Minister Boris Johnson had a pre-recorded message delivered at the event.

He said: “I’m delighted that one of the greatest events in our gastronomic calendar, the curry Oscars, is back in action, and it’s fantastic to celebrate the genius of our curry restaurateurs who have, for decades, offered their fragrant medleys.

“Throughout the testing times of the past two years you’ve always responded with resolve and creativity, feeding our NHS heroes and dispatching fleets of mopeds to bring spice to the lives of millions of people at home.

“And now, I’m glad to say, customers are returning en masse and curry houses the length and breadth of these islands are bustling once again. More than 10,000 of them across the whole of the United Kingdom, that’s 200 hundred for every city. Never forget, more in London than in Mumbai."
