Popular Edinburgh restaurant Hendersons to return with brand new location

A host of Edinburgh foodies were left delighted at the weekend after popular restaurant Hendersons announced their return.

After being a Hanover Street staple for over 50 years, the vegetarian restaurant had been forced to close for good during the pandemic, leaving customers gutted.

However, on Sunday (July 4), Barrie Henderson, grandson of original owner Janet Henderson, announced that the family business would be making a comeback this summer.

With a brand new location near Bruntsfield Links, the name will be rebranded as 'Hendersons - Eat Better Live Better', and will still be serving vegetarian, vegan and local food.

Located at the previous site of the Apartment restaurant, Barrie stated on social media that he was desperate to "save his grandmother's legacy".

A key part of the original business, Barrie was at the helm of Hendersons between 2012 till March 2020, and during his time in charge, Hendersons won several awards including Green Family Business of the Year 2018, Family Business of the Year 2016, and Best Vegetarian Establishment at the Food Awards in 2016, 2017 and 2019, among others.

Speaking on social media, he said:

"When my family decided to close down Hendersons of Hanover Street, the news came as a blow not only for our customers but also for the staff, including myself, in an already incredibly worrying time. It was a tragedy to see the family business close, and for my grandmother’s legacy to disappear.

It was the messages I received, however, that convinced me I had to bring back Hendersons, for everyone that it meant something to – the customers, staff and community.

"We are really excited to finally make the announcement that we are opening 'Hendersons - Eat Better Live Better' near Bruntsfield Links this September.

"We will be doing lunch and dinner initially, with take away, delivery and outside catering options."
