Popular Edinburgh restaurant and cocktail bar The Refinery to close for good

Edinburgh restaurant The Refinery is due to close after being served notice by their landlord.

The popular eatery and cocktail bar on St Andrews Square will shut for good next month.

Opened in 2016, the bar has been a staple of the newly refurbished St Andrew's Square, and was one of the eateries alongside The Ivy and Dishoom that gave a new lease of life to the street.

Despite the site closing in September, it appears that the space may not be empty for long, with speculation and reports claiming that a new restaurant run by a well-known celebrity chef will take it's place.

This week, the Times stated that Gordon Ramsay may be making a second attempt at a new Scottish restaurant after he was linked to a takeover deal on Friday (August 20).

However, the claims are yet to be verified by the Johnstone-born chef, who currently owns 35 restaurants worldwide.

Drake & Morgan confirmed to Edinburgh Live that The Refinery bar & restaurant on Edinburgh’s St Andrew Square will close after landlord serves notice.

Drake & Morgan said: “We are incredibly disappointed that our landlord at The Refinery St Andrew Square has served us with notice. This means we are sadly forced to close our doors on Sunday, 12 September.

"We are doing everything we can to support our team and are very sad to leave Edinburgh. We would like to thank all our loyal customers for their support, and we hope to return to the city in another location soon.”
