Popular Edinburgh pub with toilets swept away in storm to be sold to home builders

A beloved Edinburgh local pub has been put up for sale almost a year after part of the building collapsed into the Water of Leith.

The Longstone Inn shut its doors during the initial coronavirus lockdown but reopened for a brief period during the first easing of restriction in July last year.

However regulars were left stunned when it later emerged the toilet block had been swept away by stormy weather.

It later closed again after the discovery of ‘extensive’ water damage to the foundations, leaving its future in doubt.

The pub has now closed its doors permanently and looks set to be sold off for a residential development after appearing on property site RightMove.

According to the listing, the £175,000 asking price “provides a great opportunity to acquire the subjects at an attractive price and develop the subject for existing bar/restaurant or other use.”

It adds: “The premises may suit further development for mixed/residential use subject to consent.”

The pub’s idyllic setting on the picturesque waterway made it a popular haunt for locals, with an attached beer garden offering seating for up to 24 people.

Inside, there is capacity for 50-60 diners in a rear room with a large open plan bar and beer cellar, while the listing also includes a residential flat above the pub.
