Popular Edinburgh deli named one of the UK's best by prestigious travel magazine

An Edinburgh food spot has been named one of the UK’s top seven “superb” delis by a luxury travel magazine.

Valvona and Crolla was chosen among the top delis in the country by Suitcase, who praised the deli for their wide selection of Italian ingredients.

The deli also borders onto the Valvona and Crolla cafe bar, which serves meals using many of the traditional Italian ingredients found in the deli.

Located on Elm Row in Edinburgh city centre, the deli offers a selection of ingredients and products that you might otherwise be unable to find in the supermarket. As well as a fantastic assortment of dried pastas, olive oils and cheeses, they also sell a huge selection of Italian wines.

The deli also enjoys a unique aesthetic, with a wide range of products displayed on rustic wooden shelves stretching to the ceiling and dried sausages hanging above your head as you enter.

About the deli, Suitcase magazine said: “A handsome foodie stable on the edge of Edinburgh's Gayfield Square, Valvona & Crolla is known among Scots as the best place in the country for a fix of Italy's famous flavours.

“Upon entering the dimly lit set-up, you'll find yourself beneath a ceiling clad with pots and pans and packaged hams, a sea of region-specific shelves before you. Browse Sicilian delights and boxes of Tuscan magic, before flitting next door to Valvona & Crolla Caffè Bar, whose fresh fish pastas are legendary.”
