Every weekend they answer dozens of calls around Cowgate, George Street and the city centre, attending calls with their trained volunteers and helping those in need which takes pressure off the emergency services.

The charity is immensely successful and works with Police Scotland and many clubs around Edinburgh but operates on a small budget of £20,000 a year.

Edinburgh nightclub Pilgrim located at Robertson's Close has always been a firm favourite with Edinburgh clubbers on St Patricks Day and this year the club is using one of their busiest nights a year to host a fundraiser for the charity.

Speaking to Edinburgh Live, manager Lewis Fraser said: "This event continues a long standing partnership with ourselves and the brilliant charity DJ group and promoters Edinburgh Disco Lovers, having hosted six events prior to raise money for various charitable causes.

"We decided to run another event for Paddy’s Day this year having had our last big Paddy’s Day event in 2020 with them cancelled due to Covid.

"After speaking to Neil Logan from Street Assist in the last few months, learning how underfunded and squeezed the service has been in recent years, despite being a huge help to venues across Edinburgh, we agreed to pinpoint the service as the main fundraising cause for our Paddy’s day event.

"Street Assist help an already overwhelmed ambulance and police service on the weekends by assisting, assessing and helping those in need.

"Nightlife Venues all around Edinburgh have leaned on these volunteers for support and assistance and we believe they deserve huge recognition.

"The event itself will showcase some of Edinburgh’s finest local Djs, playing Disco, house and much more from 7pm, all whilst raising money for a great cause.

"Street Assist themselves will be there to give out more information on the range of services and help they can provide to venues and customers alike."

The Cowgate hot spot wrote on their Facebook page: "Tomorrow night we’re bringing you shenanigans aplenty as @edinburghdiscolovers and friends bring us their Super Paddy’s Day sesh!

"Even better, we’re raising money for @street_assist_edinburgh who’ll be around on the night letting you know what they do and how you can help!

"Doors open 4pm, DJs from 7pm, More info over in our bio - see you on the makeshift dance floor."
