Popular East Kilbride Vietnamese restaurant to close doors for good after 17 years

A long-standing Vietnamese and Chinese restaurant in East Kilbride Village will close for good this weekend.

The owner of family-run Hai Phong - previously Nams - Lien Chang has thanked all their loyal customers for their support and the "many happy times and memories" shared with them over nearly 20 years.

On a Facebook post she cited coronavirus and the difficult trading conditions which lie ahead as making the business no longer viable long-term.

The doors will finally close on Sunday, August 2 but they will remain open for take away meals until then.

Lien posted: "We’ve been a feature of the restaurant scene in East Kilbride Village for 17 years now.

"We are incredibly grateful to you all. You’ve welcomed us with open arms and become our friends.

"You’ve trusted us to cook for your extended family, your friends from other countries and your new relations.

"We’ve hosted everything imaginable - birthdays, wedding anniversaries, memorable evenings, graduations, stag night dinners, hen parties, Christmas nights out, valentines dinners and lots more.

"We’ve had fun along the way. Our customers mean everything to us.

"We are incredibly thankful for your support over the years. Your loyalty has been instrumental to our success as a business.

"We became friends with our customers, seeing them through all of life’s special occasions.

"We’ve made some lifelong friends who started off as customers and became much more than that."

She added: "Coronavirus and the anxiety around social distancing, has caused this, meaning a difficult trading year ahead and no guarantee of a return to normality anytime soon.

"We want to thank you sincerely for everything and hope you and yours are safe and well.

"We also want to thank you all for the gifts, cards and good wishes. It really means a lot."
