Popular Dublin shop Rugs to Rhinos closed after horrific fire in Harold's Cross overnight while one person treated for burns at house fire in Stillorgan

A popular South Dublin shop has had to close its doors today following a horrific fire.

Antiques furniture shop Rugs to Rhinos which is situated on Harold's Cross Road caught fire overnight in the Dublin 6W area.

The blaze happened shortly after 12am on Thursday morning and firefighters from Dolphins Barn, Rathfarnham and Donnybrook attended the scene.

A turntable from HQ was brought in to fight the fire which took about two hours in total to fully extinguish.

Dublin Fire Brigade reported that there was no injuries.

In a statement this morning, the company said: "The shop is closed this morning due to an incident. Phone lines are down and we will be off line for the rest of the day. We will update people later tonight."

One eye-witness told Dublin Live that the store had the "shutters up" when they passed at 7:30am this morning.

They added: "Gardai were sitting outside when I drove past. The place is taped off."

In a statement to Dublin Live, a spokeswoman said: "Gardaí are investigating a fire that occurred at a premise in the Harold’s Cross area of Dublin 6 on Wednesday 12 June 2019 at approximately 12:30am .

"On arrival the premise was on fire and DFB have now been extinguished. No arrests have been made and investigations are ongoing."

As well as this, Dublin Fire Brigade attended the scene of a house fire this morning in Stillorgan.

Units from Donnybrook and Dun laoghaire attended the domestic fire at approximately 8am on Thursday morning.

Two houses were involved in the blaze and the fire spread into the roof of one of the houses.

It was brought under control just after 9am and one person is being treated for burns.
